Whoa

So I haven't written in a while. This semester was really crazy. I thought taking one class would be a breeze, but clearly I don't remember any classes being a breeze, not sure why I thought that would happen. Anyway, life got away from me, but I have an MBA!!! After Four years of classes, and even though I've been saying "I have most of an MBA" for the last several months, it doesn't quite feel real. I expect it won't hit me that I'm done with classes until September when I don't go back (I've been taking summers off). I haven't thought about T much since he showed up on abcnews.com in January, until this week. I never felt like he supported me going to business school and part of me wants to send him a picture of my diploma on Friday with my middle finger. I won't do it, but it would be satisfying to know that he knows how well I'm doing. I would say that the news will probably trickle back to him somehow, but I've really cut out all potential social connections.

Last night, I had a dream that we had somehow gotten back together for a few months and I was trying to break up with him. I was sitting in my parents' dining room too, which was weird. He was trying to reject my break up and how I would miss him. I wouldn't even verbally respond, I just kept trying to run away. He isn't even worth arguing with in a dream! Crazy! Anyway, I'm so proud of myself for finishing my MBA, but so scared to pay off my loans. I think my online shopping days might have to end.....Wah wah.

Sunday smiles

I've come to realize the last few weekends that each weekend I've had the last few months have been great. I am really starting to feel settled into my life with great friends and plenty to do.

Today I have way too much to do. I'm really anxious to just be done with school!

Back to work for me!

I'm a Bad Blogger....but I expected this

So I am terrible at being religious about journal entries and blogs. It happens. I'm just going to outline some updates and then I will try to be better in the future.

In no particular order:

  • Finished Spring semester.....grades come out tomorrow. I'm more nervous than I remember during this program.... Just checked on a whim....did not do great, but I think my GPA will be ok.
  • On a whim during finals, I re-activated my okcupid account. I met this guy, and we dated for a few weeks, but then he did the quick fade away. I'm feeling strangely relieved by it.
  • Before him, I was half dating someone...semi-regularly hooking up....it was frustrating and annoying. I eventually had to break it off. It was the longest non-break up of my life. Took 5 days until he finally blocked me on gchat to get the last word in. Fine by me!
  • Prepping for a 12 day trip to Istanbul & Athens with school. I'm so excited.
  • Now that summer is approaching, the reality of not being busy all the time on the boat is started to set in.  It will be interesting to see how I deal with that going forward.
  • Got an ipad (mini) for the trip last Friday. Love it. I decided to name it Q after Q in James Bond. My kindle, is named Agatha. As in Agatha Christie.  Didn't bring Q to work today, and I'm going through withdrawals. Damn you Apple crack.
  • Spent an amazing Saturday with my mom. We saw the MFA's Art in Bloom exhibit. It was awesome. Then we saw Thoroughly Modern Millie (musical) in Stoneham.
Ok that's it for now. I'll try to be better.

Relationship corner, latkes and finals

So I haven't been posting a lot lately. School temporarily took over my life. I feel like every semester seems so awful towards the end. Happy to report that I'm on my way to my finance final which officially ends the semester. This was my 5th semester and my first one single. So much has changed since September. I even talked to T on my first day as I did in the precious 4 semesters. Strange to imagine. I know I'm putti a lot of pressure on myself this semester because I have been single and could devote more time to school work. We will see.

Last weekend, I visited my Chicago cousins for Hanukkah. It wasn't so much planned that I'd be there for the holiday, but I'm glad I was. The girls are growing up too fast for me to only see them in the summer. Hanukkah was a huge success and I made my first latkes without my mom or sister watching. I managed to get some studying in too and hopefully tonight will go well.

My cousin I is married to this amazing woman M. They are one of those couples that just for so perfectly together and it's an added bonus that I get to have her it family too. Years ago, M was frustrated with her single marital status. Her sister in law helped her fung shui her apartment and famously removed the dirty laundry from her relationship corner. One month later, M and I met and the rest is history. We discussed this over the weekend and she lent me the red vase that replaced her dirty laundry and landed her a husband. We'll see if it works. We were joking thy I would mail I back after the honeymoon and that if they started to argue more I would send it back in a hurry. Not sure I completely buy into this stuff, but it is fun nonetheless.

I feel like I'm opening myself up to dating a little more, but that will be another post.

When school parallels life it is weird

One of the classes I'm taking this semester is called Cultural aspects of international business. Last night was our first meeting. As part of class, our professor walked us through the steps of obtaining an international assignment, adjusting to it, then adjusting to home. His language was vague enough that I couldn't help but find parallels to leaving a long term relationship.

It is an adventure. One I entered reluctantly, but entered all the same. Once one arrives in the place of their foreign adventure, there is a child like dependence that will develop, mostly due to language gaps. Now that I'm in my adjustment period I'm trying to avoid the people that are discouraging and put up walls, and the "wonderful
magicians" that befriend you and guide you through the way.

Maybe it was my stress level or maybe it was my period, but I was almost tearing up. I'm still identifying who my threshold guardians are and who are my true magical friends. Unfortunately, we are all speaking English and it's harder to distinguish between the two. Like most ex-pats, I'm hoping to overcome the odds and be successful in settling in. At the very least, I should be getting tips from this class.

I don't know about anyone else, but being smacked across the face by another way of looking at whatever is bothering you, seems to put things into perspective.

Here's to new adventures.
